SAFETY IN SCHOOLS

Safety in school is a necessary issue, an important requirement in any society, for many reasons, in which the most important factor is to ensure the psychological safety of each group of students and protect students from harmful external factors:
* Vulnerable groups: Students or children are the most vulnerable group in disasters. Meanwhile, children are the future of society, so keeping children safe is a very important and necessary issue to be implemented.
* Agent of change: The most suitable agent of change for society is children. Children can bring knowledge and skills in responding to, mitigating and preventing disasters.
* Third generation: Educating children is educating the third generation, so that they will share knowledge with their relatives. When children become parents, they continue to share knowledge with their children.
* Community centers: Schools are often used as community centers, especially schools in rural areas. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure the safety of community activities held at schools.
* Safe shelter/relief: During a disaster, schools are often used as shelter/relief for the community. Evacuation or relief activities will be difficult if the school is destroyed or damaged.
* Teaching plan: A safe school will ensure that teaching and learning plans are fully implemented.
* Psychosocial support: During a disaster, children are the most vulnerable and need psychological and social support. Reopening schools plays an important role in supporting and helping children quickly integrate with friends, school and community.

The criteria for assessing safety in schools comply with the provisions of Article 11 – Circular 18/2023/TT-BGDDT dated October 26, 2023 with the following information:
* Facilities, equipment, documents and teaching materials
* School security and order, prevention of school violence, social evils and crimes, protection of learners in the online environment
* Prevention of drowning, traffic accidents and other types of injuries * Protection and care for learners’ health
* Implementation of codes of conduct, democratic regulations in schools, mental health education and psychological counseling, social work for students
